Send photos, videos, files, and voice messages
Attach media or a file
Section titled “Attach media or a file”Select the paperclip and choose an available action:
- Take photo;
- Record video;
- Choose photo or video;
- Choose file;
- Choose from Files.
Each attachment is sent as its own message and cannot be combined with text. The original attachment can be up to 100 MB. Video and voice recordings are limited to five minutes.
On a phone or tablet, the device picker may offer its camera, recorder, and media library. Desktop devices can also use direct camera capture when the browser and hardware support it.
Preview before sending
Section titled “Preview before sending”Review the selected attachment, upload state, and file information in the composer. Remove it to cancel, or select the send arrow when it is ready. Captured photos can be resized before upload; selected media is not converted.
The attachment appears in the timeline only after its upload and final checks complete. If the upload fails, it stays in the composer so you can try again.
Record a voice message
Section titled “Record a voice message”Select the microphone, allow microphone access, and record. Stop to review the recording. You can play it, remove it, or send it.
The voice message appears in the timeline only after its upload completes. If the upload fails, the recording stays available so you can send it again.
Open and download media
Section titled “Open and download media”Select the open icon on a photo or the play icon on a video. The viewer shows the sender and time in its header.
On desktop, photos support zoom buttons, mouse-wheel zoom, and dragging while zoomed. On touch devices, pinch to zoom and drag with one finger. Use the header download button for the original file. Supported mobile devices may open their native share sheet; otherwise the browser downloads normally.
Files without a visual preview download from their file row.
Open an attachment’s actions to select Save to My Files. Choosing an existing Files item for Chat creates an independent Chat attachment, so the message is not affected if the original Files item later changes or is deleted.
Supported formats
Section titled “Supported formats”Common supported formats include JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, HEIC, HEIF, MP4, WebM, MOV, PDF, RTF, text, CSV, ZIP, Microsoft Office, Open XML, and OpenDocument files. Unsupported formats are rejected before upload.
